The Big Conversation is the culmination of a new programme called ‘Real People, Honest Talk’ ran by Near Neighbours, a national charity that aims to bring people together across ethnic and cultural differences to build stronger communities, towns and cities.

There are many ingredients that go into building a resilient community, and one of the key concerns has been around cohesion, integration and diversity. If people don’t know each other, or don’t talk to each other, it’s likely that trust will wane.  But where are the opportunities for people to meet in a safe space where local issues can be raised and discussed?

‘Real People, Honest Talk’ aims to create public spaces for honest talk about difference and how we live together well. It works to bring people together to engage in conversation, and subsequent action, around difficult and sensitive topics of concern in a locality.

During the months of July & September we are running 4 programmes in the Borough of Barnet including Finchley, Burnt Oak, Colindale & West Hendon. We would like to bring local agencies and other stakeholders together to build on these conversations and to give you the opportunity to hear the voices of these Real People.

There will be unique insights into life at the local level and stories which rarely get heard.  The event is an opportunity to share ideas and to build on the valuable contributions made by participants. Bringing together different people from across the Borough, this special evening will celebrate the resilience of local people and give encouragement to community groups who work and live in Barnet directly affected by policy and decision making.

If you would like to join us for this unique event, please RSVP to:  efewkes@kingscentresouthall.org.uk by 1st October 2019 and please do let us know of any dietary requirements.
