“This session will look at the roles of animals in our daily lives and the therapeutic effects these relationships have on human health and wellbeing across all ages and abilities”

The day is split into two parts:

The quad event, 10.00 – 15.00 (drop-in not tickets needed): Where charities and groups come to share and showcase the work with dogs and the importance of health and wellbeing. Furry friends share this space and love with those who wish to come and meet them.

The lecture, 16.00 – 17.30 (book tickets ): The IPL lecture takes place in the afternoon and is being hosted by Jenny Phillips (lecturer of child nursing) and guest speaker Praveen Gopalan. Join us in this creative learning space to learn more.

One Health Inter-professional Learning

The One Health Initiative is a movement which forges a co-equal, inclusive collaboration between doctors, veterinarians, dentists, nurses and other disciplines from both the fields of scientific health and environmental / biodiversity .

Veterinarians coined the term “One Health” to capture how relationships between humans, animals and the environment affect the spread of diseases. More than 70 percent of emerging human diseases are zoonotic, meaning they originate in animals. It’s a critical area of research, education and outreach. The existence of Anthrophonosis is also recognised and is a form of disease transference whereby humans infect animals.

One Health employs an interdisciplinary approach to problems. Through seeking to treat root causes, it’s often more successful than traditional methods that focus on symptoms. The One Health paradigm has been endorsed by the World Health Organization and the United Nations and is the focus of this inter-professional learning session.
